They make a strong case that NFL teams have learned to deal with crowd noise and that home-field advantage stems from unconscious influence on officials.Michael Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10362529610470788243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5465015914589377788.post-43339021294465642832012-04-18T10:33:16.701-04:002012-04-18T10:33:16.701-04:00Sounds like a really interesting book. In the NFL, the crowd can generate enough noise to cause multiple problems for the offense (false starts are most common). A statistician can look back and say the home team had more calls go their way, but these types of dead-ball penalties aren't influenced by the officials.

I would be interested to see a study on east-coast vs. west-coast teams and how they fair on long road trips (i.e. Seattle travelling to New York). The perception is that the road team doesn't play well.Echohttp://www.boomerandecho.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5465015914589377788.post-23540152472516815362012-04-18T10:15:30.923-04:002012-04-18T10:15:30.923-04:00@Big Cajun Man: I'd say that this book mostly...@Big Cajun Man: I'd say that this book mostly shows that many of our gut feelings about sports are wrong.
