It means I'm not tinkering with my portfolio very much; as I own the same CDN and US stocks the big funds own and index invest everything else.

Thanks for linking to the goals post. Some aggressive stuff but we'll see. TFSAs will be maxed out very soon so that's a good start with that in the bank.

Have a great weekend,
MarkMy Own Advisorhttp://www.myownadvisor.canoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5465015914589377788.post-63200414238180102092017-01-06T09:36:13.175-05:002017-01-06T09:36:13.175-05:00@Anonymous: It's hard to know what returns in...@Anonymous: It's hard to know what returns investors got in ETFs because of all the frenetic trading. Perhaps someone has done a study to see how much typical investors underperform the ETFs they trade, but I haven't seen it.

I did a very quick calculation to find that a portfolio starting 40% VAB, 30% VTI, 30% VCN with no rebalancing would have returned about 10.9% per year for the last 5 years (measured in Canadian dollars). This is a unrealistic, though, because it should have been rebalanced to reduce the VTI. Then there is the question of what silly moves investors would make to reduce their returns.Michael Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10362529610470788243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5465015914589377788.post-76551963495220371552017-01-06T09:19:34.643-05:002017-01-06T09:19:34.643-05:009.4 is nice.
